Member Code of Conduct


1. Purpose

The Canadian Aerial Yoga Association (CANAYA) is committed to promoting safety, professionalism, inclusivity, and excellence in the practice and teaching of aerial yoga across Canada.  This Code of Conduct outlines the ethical standards and professional behaviors expected of all members.

By maintaining membership with CANAYA, members agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and act in a manner that reflects positively on the Association and the broader aerial yoga community.

2. Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all CANAYA members.  It governs conduct during classes, trainings, workshops, events, online platforms, and any activity in which a member represents themselves as affiliated with CANAYA.

3. Professional Integrity

Members shall:
* Act with honesty, integrity, and fairness in all professional interactions
* Accurately represent their qualifications, certifications, training hours, and experience
* Refrain from making false, misleading, or exaggerated claims about aerial yoga practices or outcomes
* Respect intellectual property, including training materials, manuals, branding, and proprietary content

4. Safety and Duty of Care

Members have a primary responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of students and participants.

Members shall:
* Follow recognized safety standards for aerial yoga equipment, rigging, installation, and maintenance
* Use equipment appropriate to the student’s level, physical condition, and environment
* Conduct proper screening, briefing, and risk disclosure before participation
* Maintain appropriate instructor-to-student ratios
* Not teach beyond their scope of training or certification
* Stay informed of current best practices related to safety and injury prevention

5. Respect, Inclusion, and Harassment-Free Environment

CANAYA is committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming community.

Members shall:
* Treat all individuals with respect and dignity, regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, ability, or background
* Provide a harassment-free environment, free from discrimination, bullying, intimidation, or abuse
* Respect personal boundaries, consent, and physical autonomy at all times
* Use inclusive and professional language in verbal, written, and online communication

Harassment, exploitation, or inappropriate conduct of any kind will not be tolerated.

6. Professional Boundaries and Ethics

Members shall:
* Maintain clear and appropriate professional boundaries with students and trainees
* Avoid conflicts of interest or disclose them when they arise
* Not exploit relationships for personal, financial, or emotional gain
* Respect the confidentiality of personal, medical, and sensitive information shared by students or colleagues

7. Teaching Standards and Continuing Education

Members are encouraged to pursue ongoing professional development.

Members shall:
* Teach in a manner consistent with their training and the principles of safe aerial yoga practice
* Stay current with continuing education, safety updates, and evolving industry standards
* Be open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement

8. Representation of the Association

When representing CANAYA, members shall:
* Uphold the reputation, values, and mission of the Association
* Use CANAYA logos, titles, and credentials in accordance with Association guidelines
* Not imply endorsement by CANAYA for activities, products, or services without authorization

9. Online and Social Media Conduct

Members shall:
* Communicate responsibly and professionally on social media and online platforms
* Avoid posting content that is misleading, defamatory, discriminatory, or damaging to CANAYA or its members
* Respect privacy and obtain consent before sharing images or videos of students or events

10. Compliance with Laws and Regulations

Members shall:
* Comply with all applicable local, provincial, and federal laws and regulations
* Maintain appropriate insurance coverage where required
* Follow workplace health and safety regulations relevant to their activities

11. Reporting and Enforcement

Members are encouraged to report violations of this Code of Conduct to CANAYA in good faith.

CANAYA reserves the right to:
* Review and investigate alleged violations
* Request additional information or clarification
* Take appropriate action, which may include warnings, suspension, or termination of membership

All reports will be handled with discretion and fairness.

12. Acknowledgement

By maintaining membership with the Canadian Aerial Yoga Association, members acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agreed to abide by this Code of Conduct.

This Code of Conduct may be updated periodically.  Members are responsible for staying informed of the most current version.
